Swatch & Review: Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream

Nyx has released a bunch of new products and quite a few new shades of old favorites this January. I jumped on the chance to purchase several new shades of their matte lip creams from Ulta.

Overall 7.8/10

These Lippies are fantastic. There are a multitude of shades (22) in a lot of very different shades. Even their naming scheme is cute. Currently I own: Amsterdam, Stockholm, Antwerp, Addis Ababa, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Ibiza, and Copenhagen.

Pigmentation 9/10

The pigmentation on these is fantastic with both the dark and light shades. I apply these over moisturized lips and after only one swipe of the doe foot applicator I have full coverage that will last me a decent amount of time.

Texture 9/10

These really do feel soft. They have a really plush feeling on the lips and go on creamy and smooth. Some shades have better textures than others, but overall they are lovely (even the worst ones texture wise are still nice. I’m looking at you Buenos Aires.)

Longevity 8/10

This depends greatly on the shade. Stockholm for instance lasted though an 8 hour day without any touch ups while Buenos Aires is a much drier shade (or mine might be a dud) and needed a couple of applications throughout the day. I would still give it passes the kiss test with flying colors.

Application 9/10

Supper easy application. I personally use their doe foot applicator, though have seen some use a small lip brush. I find that the doe foot works for me and is just easier for me than a brush. One swipe and you’re done.

Packaging 4/10

While I really love Nyx’s Matte Lip Creams there are some serious faults with them namely their packaging. Nothing is wrong with the look, feel, or applicator. My issue solely rests on the fact that you simply cannot tell if someone has taken the liberty of testing a tube. There just is no way to tell if it has been used or not. I’ve heard tons of stories about people receiving opened/used products or half empty. With regular lipsticks you can tell when it has been used but with these cream lip products there really isn’t a way to tell.

I know Nyx has put forward that the price would have to go up for this to be a possibility. I don’t really understand how this can be so since plenty of cheaper brands do this. It seems awful important for a product that may carry diseases or sickness that it has some seal. Even a sticker would work. Just anything I can check for use with.
